Portlaoise Try-athlon - What is it all about?

Portlaoise Sprint Try-athlon returns in 2012 following a very successful race in 2011. For the fourth year running, the event will take place on Saturday 21st April 2012.
For the first time, Trilogy has incorporated a Junior ( 9 - 15 year olds) and a Youth ( 16 - 19 year olds) triathlon contest ranging from a 100m swim to a 750m swim. A cycle which distance starts at 3km and increases to 19.5km. A run from 800m to 5km.

The event is open to all, but has been particularly designed for anyone racing their first event - either as a team or as individuals. The short-distance, pool-based swim makes an ideal dry run for longer events outdoors later in the new season, and will help anyone preparing for outdoor events like TriAthy later in the Summer.

The race course for triathletes of 15 years and under will utilise the run route of the senior run course for their cycle. Our triathletes of the future will cycle along quiet roads, cheered on by marshals, supporters, friends and family. We wish them all the very best in their triathlon endeavours.

For the Seniors the cycle course is moderately challenging, taking competitors out the old Dublin road, over a gradual incline towards Emo, then returning via quiet roads for the cycle leg, to complete the run over a largely flat out and back route local to the town.

The event is the first Triathlon Ireland competitive triathlon in Laois, and the organisers hope the central location makes the event accessible to all. The race is organised by Trilogy Triathlon, who are co-organisers of TriAthy, Irelands biggest race, and The Heritage Challenge, a local event in Laois 2004-2009.
